Mike and Gina - 2
Thank you for sharing your happiness with Filipina Eyes
My name is Mike, and I signed up for Filipinaeyes.com in August of 2005. Within just a few days I was starting to receive e-mails from ladies in Manila, Mindanao, Cebu and Singapore. After about a week I received an e-mail from Gina in Laoag City (Ilocos Norte province about 310 miles north of Manila).

Like the other e-mails, I responded to Gina with some basic information. One e-mail led to another and Gina was turning out to be a very interesting lady.

After a few weeks of e-mail we stepped things up a notch and started IM chat on an almost daily basis. She had applied for a visa to Canada and was planning to work in Toronto. We started discussing a meet in Toronto. The more I found out about Gina, the more I knew we had to meet soon. Finally, I decided that since Gina did not know when she would get the visa, we needed to start planning a meet in the Philippines. It was already October so we decided February would be the best time for me to fly to Manila. During the next three months we would chat and plan our vacation.

February 2006 arrived and I felt like I had known Gina for a very long time. I even knew so much about her family. I flew from Arizona to Los Angeles to catch my Philippine Airlines flight to Manila. A long flight 17 hour flight to Manila was only made longer by my anticipation of finally meeting in person this wonderful lady named Gina.

Arriving in Manila in the early morning, I got a taxi to the hotel. I arrived about 90 minutes before Gina. She had taken the overnight bus to Manila from Laoag. When Gina arrived at the hotel, I saw her coming up the steps and I knew it was her. I was absolutely awestruck. We spent the rest of the day just relaxing and taking it easy. We had our first dinner together at Barrio Fiesta, not far from the U.S. Embassy. For a couple that had only seen each other for a few hours, we were completely comfortable and really enjoyed each others company.

The next day Gina was my tour guide. We spent most of the day at the Intramuros section of Manila which is the old Spanish built section of Manila. It was an absolutely great day. On day three we planned to take the overnight bus to Laoag, so we just killed the day at one of the shopping malls and watched a movie.

Arriving in Laoag City on the morning of day four, one of Gina's four brother's met us at the bus depot.

Then it was a short ride to the house where I met the rest of her family. The rest of the day, Gina played tour guide of Ilocos Norte, while her older brother drove. Not until this trip did I realize that Former President Marcos was born in Ilocos Norte province.

Friday afternoon we watched the two hour long street pageantry that is part of the annual fiesta.

Saturday was a big day with us taking a family trip to the beach at Pagudpud, about an hour north of Laoag City, while also taking in some great tourist sites along the way.

Sunday afternoon was a very big day. I followed Gina's father to the fields for a chat. Since he does not speak much english, Gina had taught me enought Ilocano to ask him for permission to marry Gina.

Turns out her father understands english, but does not speak much english. So I asked his permission in my best Ilocano and he responded 'Yes, as long as you love her.'

Monday morning Gina and I left Laoag for Baguio, in the mountains. It was a great chance to see parts of the countryside we missed on the trip up from Manila. Every day of this trip had just been great.

Tuesday was Valentine's day and Gina and I wanted to have a special dinner. So we found a nice steak house called the Sizzling Plate (turns out to be a chain in the Philippines). We enjoyed a very nice dinner and then for desert, I said 'Gina, will you marry me?' She said 'Yes Mike, I will marry you!'

After we left the restaurant, we just strolled around the park and talked about lots of things. But it will always be a very special Valentine's Day.

We toured Baguio on Wednesday and then on the bus again to Manila on Thursday. My flight back to the US was Sunday night, so we spent our final days in Manila touring places like Rizal/Luneta Park and starting some wedding planning. Sunday arrived and it was a day we both hated to see. We knew I would be coming back, but just not knowing how long it would be until we would see each other again.

Gina had a great birthday in 2006 because I arrived in Manila that day for another two week visit and the petition for her Fiancee visa was approved that day. In January 2007, Gina received notification of her interview at the embassy. I arrived in Manila on February 14, one day before her interview and the one year anniversary of our engagement. The interview was short and to the point, just a few questions to see how well she knew me.

Gina and I flew to Los Angeles in March 2007 and married on May 26th. Now it is December and we are expecting our first child in June of next year.

Filipinaeyes.com has made a big change in my life, the life of Gina, and most certainly the lives of those around us.
