I’m sure most of you have heard of and use Google search engine. The Google world is quite different for webmasters than it is for the average person who uses it to search. Most webmasters pray every morning to the Google gods hoping that they will be blessed and anointed as the number one site in Google for their niche (site theme). I already promised them my first grandchild if Google ranks me #1 for the term “online dating.” For the average member, they do not realize how important Google is in their search for love. I won’t go into all the technical details but imagine the site being highly ranked on some very popular search terms in google. What does that mean to you? It means the more people who find the site the better the chances of someone joining who may be the one meant for you. Filipina Eyes does ok in the google world, but my competition is always trying to find ways to take over my rankings. How? In very simplistic terms, they try to get links to their site placed on other sites. The more links pointing to their site, the more popular they become. It is a never ending battle for webmasters to try to stay one step ahead of their competition. I have been doing it for years and have held my own but have also lost a few along the way. The big boys don’t have the same concerns as a mom and pop site like Filipina Eyes. They simply have the money to either hire or buy the results they want. I know one such site that has 3 people working for them and their only job is to get links placed on other sites pointing to their site. I can’t afford to hire a staff – in my case the staff is a grand total of one – me. My salary is $0.00. Some webmasters try to solicit their members (I know I have) to help out by spreading the word. The more links members place on other sites pointing to Filipina Eyes, the more popular it becomes in the google world. I do know a webmaster whose members helps him out quite a bit. You ask how members can help? Here are some ideas: 1. You can create a blog and talk about the site and place a link to it. You can create a free blog using google at: https://www.blogger.com/start 2. You can use another site called hubpages to create a site and basically post a link and talk about our site in hubpages – http://hubpages.com/ 3. Probably the most popular way is when members post a comment on forums or on other web site blogs posting a link to our site. 4. I know FaceBook, MySpace and Yahoo Answers are some other popular ways members can post a link or talk about our site. There are more ways. The key to link building is variety. For example, it is better to have 3 people post one link than to have one person post three links on another site. Google is smart enough to know when the same person is posting a link and will devalue the 2nd link. Believe me, if all it took was one person to post links on other sites to get high rankings, I would of done it a long time ago.
