When it comes to expressing yourself on an Asian dating site, words are not always easy. Many try to do so by pictures but leave the door open for those pictures being misinterpreted. Ask a member what their perception is of a lady who is displaying her upper body, you will get a variety of responses from slut to sexy. If you are looking for a husband and want to present yourself as wife material, your image may or may not convey you are sincerely looking for marriage.

However, if I went by my wife’s opinion, men are the worse offenders of conveying the right message with their profile image. Men who try to show off their muscles are usually perceived as playboys rather than someone who will make a lifetime commitment to marriage. Believe it or not, I was in good shape in my younger days, and when I was looking for love I displayed myself in a tight shirt. I got very few responses or the responses I got were mostly from hustlers. I decided to change my image to a simple one with me in my loose but comfortably fitting sweat shirt and all of a sudden I was flooded with potential suitors. It also helps to get that smirk, cocky look off your face as if any woman would be lucky to have you.

The toughest call for men, is those in a suit. In some cases it sends a signal to women you are all business and won’t have time for a relationship. It has more of a banker image than a man of romance. However, between the cocky muscle man or the banker, the banker usually gets more responses.

Probably the man who takes the middle of the road look gives off the best vibe. Casual, romantic and committed to one woman is the image woman are looking for. Someone who is flexible enough to accept their culture and has patience as they adjust to a new way of life. If that is your image, than your chances of meeting a sincere lady usually increases.

Now don’t think an image itself tells the whole story, especially for men. A lady member is more apt to read a male’s profile than a man is to read a woman’s. So a great image can completely go to waste if all you have say in your profile is “hi, I’m Roy, call me”. Lazy...not what women want. For the lady, your image could be all a man is looking for – attractive, sincere, beautiful – yet in your profile or email you write “please hit me up at ym.com” To men this type of message early on in a relationship usually smells like a hustler. Men are looking for a woman who is responding, not trying to redirect them to another site before he has a chance to get to know you. Now once you know each other, those same words could have a different meaning, but jumping the gun too early in a relationship signals to a man you are more interested in getting him on your turf to hustle than to get to know him.
