Man, getting lots of webmaster emails. That’s good. In many ways I enjoy the webmaster aspect of running a dating site than the day in and day out routine of maintaining one.
Adsense!!!!!!!!!! I have no secret formula but I don’t mind sharing what I can. The following I have to thank Jay for. It was his idea and it has paid off for me (more on Jay later).
Most webmasters have a shared hosting account with more storage space than they would ever use. With all the extra storage space, it doesn’t make sense to not have more than one site if you want to increase your adsense.
Usually, one site is your primary site. Filipina Eyes is our primary site and it creates most of our adsense hits. However, we have several other sites that adds to our adsense, Granted, they don’t create the adsense that Filipina Eyes does, but every little bit adds up.
I always forget google’s TOS but I do know I have to be careful sharing any actual numbers. So the following is just an example and are not actual numbers of our adsense program.
Lets say your primary site makes between $70 and $100 a day or if you are just starting out (less than a year), maybe between $5 and $10 a day.
Now add some more domains. I can’t recommend a number that is best for you, but add at least 3 to 5 more. We will call these “additional” domains to make the distinction from your primary domain.
Individually, the additional domains usually won’t make as much as your primary domain, but it could make a difference collectively. For example, you may make $5.00 from the primary and maybe another $5.00 collectively from the 3 additional domains.
Your secondary domains don’t have to be anything substantial or as large as your primary. It may be a blog, a forum or whatever you like. I recommend using some kind of dynamic software for your secondary domains only because once you have it up and running, it can pretty much run itself.
The icing on the cake is that your primary domain income will probably increase because of the additional domains. Why? Because you will provide a link or links from your secondary domains to your primary and vice versa. Good linking is essential in helping to increase your adsense. Be careful. Don’t go hog wild with linking so all your additional domains look like they were created only to link to your primary site. Google will ding you. Make it natural linking and you will be ok.
Most hosts allow you to have a number of domains (our host allows us unlimited amount) for your account. Make sure you understand the terminology involved or you may get your domain terminology mixed up. I will use our host to explain:
Hostmonster allows you two types of additional domains (1) addon and (2) subdomains. I’ll give you an example of each in case your host describes them another way.
A subdomain is probably not what you want. It looks like this: http://lady.filipnaeyes.com (usually this is FREE)
An addon domain is its own url that looks like this: http://www.filipinaeyes.com or http://www.asian-wife.net
How shared host handles addons is not that complex. You have a primary domain (the domain you created when you signed up with your host) and any additional domains are placed in folders under your primary domain. Usually your primary domain will be represented by the public_html folder. For example, if my primary domain is filipinaeyes.com all files for filipinaeys will be under my public_html folder. Any additional domains will have a folder under the public_html. For example if my additional domain is asian-wife.net, I may have a folder under the public_html called “asianwife”. The asianwife folder contains all the files (including the index.html) and/or folders for www.asian-wife.net. Don’t worry, google will see addon domains the same as your primary domain. How you setup your ftp program to upload to your addon domain is not that complex. You can ask your host if you want to be sure, but I’ll give you how it works for me.
If filipinaeyes.com is my primary domain and I want to upload to filipinaeyes, I will setup my ftp program to upload to public_html. If asian-wife.net is an addon domain and is maintained in a folder called asianwife under the public_html folder I would set up my ftp program to upload like this: public_html/asianwife/ Of course you may need your username and password as well to upload, but as far as the path you will use for your addon domains more than likely it will be set up by using public_html/FolderName
Usually you have to purchase the addon domain, but don’t worry they are cheap. I think hostmonster (they are their own registrar) charges $10.00 to purchase a domain (good for a year). You may have to do a little research to see if the domain is available, but there are tons of online sites that have free tools to help you in your research or maybe your host has a tool in your cpanel.
If your host is not their own registrar (most are not) there are tons of places to buy domains. Godaddy comes to mind off the top of my head but you may want to check with your host first and see if you can purchase it through them. Once your domain is purchased, your host should help you set it up (usually you can do it yourself through you cpanel, but if it is your first time you may need some help). After purchase, it may take 2 or 3 days before your new addon domain is ready to go live (propagation is the official term). I read it can take up to 10 days, but usually it is faster.
Why get additional domains versus just adding more pages with adsense code to your primary domain? From a marketing perspective, you add more credibility to your adsense program using a separate url. I’m not going to say additional pages to your primary domain is not beneficial, but if someone is searching in google using keywords that relate to your addon domain, chances are you will get more visitors versus pages added to your primary domain. Ultimately, you should do both.
Jay gave me the idea but he does have a little different approach than I do. I believe at last count he had over 100 domains. He really doesn’t care about the primary domain concept. Instead his shotgun approach is that if each domain makes a minimum of $1, he still makes $100 a day. I think he makes more than that a day, but you get the idea.
Ok, I hope this help. The bottom line is if you want to increase adsense, most webmasters have the means to do so by adding more domains. My guide may not cover every aspect of every host, but it should be enough to get you started by calling your host if you need specifics. Don’t overwhelm yourself and try to do all additional domains at once. Do them one at a time. You may purchase more domains at the same time, especially if it is a domain you want to make sure you get before someone else does, but take your time and setup each new domain as time permits. Even if you only had time to do one domain every 6 months, your adsense will probably be better off 6 months from now than it is now.
Good Luck |
