How I found love

I asked Dan if I could submit my story in case it helps others. Here is my story for finding love.

I’m 38 years old, my name is Walter and divorced. My first marriage lasted 8 years but we should of divorced after 2. I guess we hung on for the child but now that I think back, it was not the right thing to do. As our marriage got worse, our family life became less stable and that was not doing anyone any good. She enjoyed her lunches with her buddies at work (males) and I escaped through sports.

After my divorce I met someone very special. At least I thought so. We dated for almost a year. She lived about 50 miles away so we did not see each other every night. When we were together it felt like magic. I could stare at her all day and not get tired of it. Imagine how shock I was when I learn there was someone else. He lived closer and she saw him mostly through the week and me on weekends (not every weekend but almost). Man my heart was crushed. Even after I found out she was seeing someone else, I tried to win her all for me but in time it became evident her feelings for the other guy may of been stronger. I never quite understood what she was doing with me except it may of added a thrill to her life that she needed but her heart was with the other guy. A river of tears and time gave me back a life.

The first women I met on the web was a Russian lady. She could speak English well and the relationship at best was a learning adventure for me. My level of trust was pretty low. I did enjoy our conversations but I really didn’t feel any sparks.

The first time I met an Asian lady was in a local club, not on the net. She was cute, but not striking beautiful. There still was something about her demeanor and her gentle ways that made her seem like an angel. She told me up front she was married. She and her friends enjoyed singing, that was why she was at the karaoke club. She told me she came every Friday (girls out) and I was always welcome to sit with them (her and her friends). I looked forward to Fridays. I had a blast and she had a way to make me feel whole again. After about 2 months I realized I was falling in love and knew I had to stop going. I just couldn’t take the chance of having my heart broken again. I did not know what to say to her, but I just stopped going to the club to avoid the situation.

I went into a deep depression after that. It was terrible. I could not get her smile, or shiny hair and the way she made me feel out of my head. I find solace again on the web. This time I started to search Asian dating web sites. When I first came across Filipina Eyes, I did not believe it was free and thought it was a scam. There were some attractive Asian ladies and I decided to try my luck. I wrote to three ladies and one of the ladies did ask me for money. I emailed Dan and sent him the email she sent me and he deleted her from the web site. I got a very nice email from Dan saying he apologized for the lady but there is no way before they join to know what the lady intention may be. It is only after they join and the lady ask for money do they catch her in the act. By the way, this is talked about a lot on Filipina Eyes web site and recommend you read it and heed the warnings about sending money.

One of the ladies I wrote to did write me a very sincere email. Her name was Maureen. From her photo it was hard to tell how attractive she was, but when I read her bio for some reason I got that same gentle feeling I did before. After a few emails I asked if we could exchange more photos. Holy jesus, I’m glad we did. One photo she sent me was her sitting on a couch with her legs crossed. She had big smile and I could see how beautiful she was inside and out.

We had not talked on the phone yet and so I asked if I could call her. When she picked up the phone and said hello, my heart melted. That gentle voice, a voice of an angel, crossed the ocean to my phone that for a few seconds I sat there speechless. It was only after she said my name, Walter, did I snap out of it. We talked for almost an hour.

I hung up and for some reason doubt started to creep in my mind. Was she real? Was she seeing someone else in her country? I was both happy and sad. I felt this urge to jump on a plane and just go to visit her without telling her, but of course I didn’t.

The emails, chatting on yahoo, cards, letters, phone calls was now a big part of my life. I knew I was falling and I had to go see her. The time came were I planned my trip. I never thought the day would come, but I’ll never forget the first time I saw Maureen in the airport. It was the whole thing, not just her voice, but the way she smiled, her tiny steps, that sexy gleam in her eye just for me, and when we touched..........it was all too much. It was like love flowed from her fingers to my heart the first time we held hands.

The whole time there we discussed family, our future and enjoyed every moment together. I stayed in a hotel and would usually meet her for breakfast. We spent most of the day together but there were times she felt obligated to be with her family. Family!!!!!!!! My first week there I did not meet her mom and dad yet. I did meet her brother but that was a very short time at breakfast.

Finally one morning she asked me if I would come to her family house to have dinner. Gulp! Of course I said yes. I thought for sure that I would be looked upon as this big ugly American there to steal their sweet daughter, but it turned out nothing like that. It was easy to see where Maureen got her gentleness. Her mom was as sweet and lovely as she was. Her dad did not speak English as well as Maureen’s mother, but he was very respectful. If I had to say, I think her dad was following Maureen’s mother’s lead. We talked for a few hours after dinner and that is when her mother asked me if I was going to marry Maureen. I have not officially asked Maureen yet if she would marry me, even though we talked about the future together. Maureen was right there and I did not want to hesitate with my answer thinking I may hurt her feelings. So I turned to Maureen in front of her family and asked her, “will you marry me”. Her hug told me yes and a small tear was in everyone’s eyes.

A few days later I was back on a plane for the states. It now has been a month and I’m working on all the paperwork to get Maureen to be my wife in the states. Dan told me to check out Visa Journey if I had questions or needed help. Dan would try to help, but he did the visa thing pre 9-11. Things changed a lot since then. Visa Journey is a great source and very helpful.

That is my story. It will continue. I feel like a teenager in love again. Maureen and I talk every day even if it is only for a few minutes. I can’t thank Filipina Eyes enough for coming into my life. I went from a skeptical, lonely soul, to a man who found the meaning of love and life. I know there are others out there hoping to find that same feeling. I can only repeat what is written many times on Filipina Eyes – “don’t give up”. Things may not always go as you want, but when you do find someone who loves you, who makes you smile through and through, and you feel you will burst from the love in your heart, you will forget about the times that didn’t always go your way and be glad that you hung in there until you found the love God put on earth just for you.
