Dan I will try to listen. You keep telling me to post in your forum in my emails so I will try this time
Thank you for your help in my dating project. When I get my site running I will put your link on my home page for all your help.
I did like you told me to and checked out some other dating web sites. I found one web site that had their statistics for me to see and I have some questions.
Their statistics where like ths for search engines for Nov
Google AdSense: 1515 77.10%
Gooble: 223 11.35%
Yahoo: 196 9.97%
Google Images: 11 0.56%
The rest of the statistics are lower then 11 so no use listing.
What I want to understand is the adsense numbers. How does the web site get that number and where does it come from?
More questions if it is ok:
What does these terms mean in a server log
hits, visits, unique visits, page views, referrers,
Thank you

Hey Bill
I’ll do my best to decipher your numbers/questions. I’m at a disadvantage not seeing all of the stats.
You asked about the Google Adsense numbers. Let me compare it to the Google stats that is right below Adsense.
The Google number below Adsense is probably traffic from Google search engine while the Google Adsense numbers are from Adword campaigns posted on other sites. Google search engine traffic is free traffic while the Adsense traffic is paid for traffic.
When you have your site up and running, one way people will find your site is by using google search engine. You will have to understand about keywords, search engine optimization, etc. It is not that hard and once you have your site ready to go live, I will help you.
The Google Adsense traffic comes from an Adword Campaign. You can set up a google account and start your own advertising campaign through google. Once you have done that, your ad will be placed on other sites. If someone clicks your ad on the other site, it will register as Google Adsense traffic in your logs.
Obviously you prefer getting more traffic via search engines versus adsense since search engine traffic is free. Adword campaigns can be expensive but it is the fastest way to generate traffic.
Here is what the following means:
Hits – A hit measures the number of requests for text, images, and files that your server receives for a given page. This information is not very useful.
Visits – The number of visitors to a particular site or page.
Unique Visitors: This is the number of site visits by different users. If two people visit the site three times each, you'd have six visits by two unique visitors.
Page Views: This is the number of times any page was viewed by any visitor.. Increased page view may or may not be a good thing: It may indicate your site is interesting and visitors like checking it out or it could mean that visitors have to jump through hoops to find what they need.
Referrers – These are the external links that people follow to get to your site.
Thanks for posting, Bill. The only reason I ask you to post on the forum is because some of the questions you ask in your email would be good public information for others to read. |
