Online Dating Romance Begins with a Hello

No matter if you want to meet someone at a local club, church or online, chances are you have to introduce yourself and that usually starts with a "hello."

In some ways, online daters have an advantage over traditional dating -- OR DO THEY? Before you say hello to a man or woman at an online dating site, you can read their bio. This may give you a little insight about the person and what to talk about after the initial hello. Yet, there are those in the traditional dating world, who will ask friends or people they know about a person they are attractive to before taking that first step.

Online Dating Attraction

I always get the impression from those who want to knock online dating that the initial attraction is a bad thing. Guess what -- that happens in the traditional dating world as well. If you see a person from afar at a local club or church, usually it is your physical attraction to that person that makes you want to get to know them better.

So this knocking online dating when a man or woman finds a photo of another person attractive and wants to get to know them based on this photo just doesn't hold water as being exclusive to online dating. Many who try to drag down online dating as if certain qualities are exclusive to online dating, never consider the similarities between online dating and traditional dating. There are many.

So what are some of the differences between online dating and traditional dating? Online dating does lead to the possibility that a person will not be who they say they are. Not that a person in the traditional dating world won't lie about who they are, but in the online dating world some people go as far as using false photos. There is one safe criteria in the online dating world that is just as true in the traditional dating world -- TIME. It is usually those who rush into romance too soon and too quick that fall prey to a person who is not sincere about finding romance. However, if you take your time and get to know the person, usually any cover ups are revealed. I recommend after you corresponded with a person a few times, try chatting with them using a webcam. If they do not have a webcam, ask for more pictures.

When I met Eileen, the photo on the online dating site was a studio photo. After we broke the ice, I asked if we could exchange more photos of us in our natural environment (around the house, with friends, etc). Eileen didn't hesitate but sent more. Those who are using false photos, will hesitate or come up with an excuse not to exchange more photos. Usually they only have one or two of the same false photo.

Another thing you can do, but requires some diplomacy, is to ask the person to take a picture with them holding a picture of themselves, holding a newspaper, a piece of paper with their name on it, etc. You can offer to do the same to help with the potential awkward request. You can also ask the person if they would send a photo of themselves with their family. Most false photos are individual photos without anybody else in the photo.

Good luck, take your time, use common sense and you will find the same happiness and love that Eileen and I found.
